Scratch: imagine • program • share

Scratch is enjoyed by kindergarten through to Year 6 in our school, (as well as way above that if you include me). Scratch is a free download for both mac and windows computers.

How do I describe it? I could say that it is a graphical programming language that lets you control the actions and interactions among different media. But saying that doesn't communicate the fact that it is really really Fun!

It puts you in control of the computer to create whatever you can imagine (almost).

It's produced by the "Lifelong Kindergarten Group" (Sowing the seeds for a more creative society)

Watch a video Mitch Resnick describing Scratch here, and download and install your own copy.

Let me know what you think!

till next time,

Mark

Fantastic Keyboarding Site

I've been introducing the junior years to the joys of keyboarding via this site at the BBC.

The senior students have enjoyed it as well. Try it out and you'll see why the students find it so engaging.
